Abilify

February 3, 2013 ~ The other day we tried a new medication - Abilify.

What a disaster.

Within an hour of taking one dose my son was passing out, unable to stand up, pasty, nauseated - and scaring me to death. Never again for us on the Abilify.

For a few moments I considered calling EMS but I hesitated. We shouldn't be afraid to call for help, but I have to admit that I was. You don't know what they're going to do when they show up, you don't know what the police that accompany them are going to do and you're 10 minutes from losing complete control to the hands of people who may not understand how to deal with the problem.

Fortunately, he was able to sleep off the medication and by the next morning he was fine. But I felt terrible that I was afraid to call for the help he may actually have needed. No mom should ever be afraid to call for the help she needs for her child. And yet….
