The little things
July 20, 2014 ~ A journal entry from two years ago but first, some background: We were dealing with catatonia, and there had been very little responsiveness to anything for weeks. Our son hadn't spoken more than 10 words in over a month. So you can understand why this was a big moment - an ordinary miracle.
"So we continue coping with this one day at a time. I am very sad for his struggles and feel I have aged 10 years in a month. However, there is hope and I cherish the brighter moments - seeing him smile or watching him devour a sweet pork enchilada from Costa Vida. And the brightest moment was receiving a brief phone call from him. Who would have known that having one of my children call me on the phone would be such an emotional moment?"
